The Iron Daughter (The Iron Fey Series, #2)
Written by Julie Kagawa
Release Date: August 1, 2010
Published by HarlequinTeen *Arc bound copy provided by HarlequinTeen and e-book copy provided by NetGalley and publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved The Iron King! The Faery World that Julie Kagawa created in it was so vivid and enchanting. I was crossing my fingers that the sequel would live up to its predecessor. Let me just say....I LOVE JULIE KAGAWA!! She not only wrote a sequel that lived up to the first book- it was BETTER!! Is it possible to improve on perfection? Yes!
Summary provided by Goodreads: "Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's alone in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart."
My Thoughts:
Ok... So I am thinking of doing a little double dating! I just can't decide which fae hottie I love more! Puck or Ash??? I will admit that in The Iron King I was Team Ash, but after reading The Iron Daughter, I am so torn- I love them both!! On one hand you have Ash~ Unseelie Prince, so gorgeous it hurts to look at him, plays hard to get etc.. Then you have Puck~ cute, loyal, up front about his feelings for Meghan, is a summer fae like her, and has been her protector and best friend long before all the fae craziness began. Oh decisions, decisions!! So it must be pretty obvious that there is plenty of romance in this one! We do get to meet some interesting new characters this time around, like Leanansidhe, but I really loved meeting back up with some of my favorites from the first book (Grimalkin!!). Grimalkin lazily pops up from time to time in this book, always when needed, always bored, but always exactly right about what should be done! (I am not a cat person-allergies- but I would sneeze all day if I could have my own Grim!) We also get to know Mab (Unseelie Queen) better. She is still cold and scary as crap, but seeing the Winter Court in action was so interesting. The Winter Court is vastly different (obviously!) from the Summer Court, and seeing Ash and his family's interactions with their subjects was very enlightening. Ash did act much differently towards Meghan once they arrived at the Winter Court, and I found myself (as did Meghan) wondering if he was acting so distant and cold because he was protecting her from the wrath of Mab or if he truly didn't want her, only saying and doing the things he did with her in the first book as a means to get her to the Winter Court as ordered. You will have to read the book to find out more about that because I don't want to spoil anything for you!
So you may be wondering about The Iron Fey??? Well, The Iron King ended with Meghan killing the Iron King, Machina, and one would think that the Iron Fey would now leave Meghan alone. Unfortunately, that wouldn't make for good reading and adventure, so brace yourself for another awesome showdown!! Meghan finds herself in more of an iron mess this time around and the adventures will keep you glued to the page!! In other words, this book is full of adventure and suspense, and moves at a fast pace. The ending...... WOW!! It was explosive and left me reeling!! I cannot wait for The Iron Queen to release (February 2011) so I can see what kind of new magic Julie Kagawa weaves for Meghan and her friends!
*If you haven't read The Iron King then go out and get it NOW and make sure you pick up this book too- you will want to read it asap! If you read the first one, then I have no doubt that you are already chomping at the bit for The Iron Daughter!! Bravo Julie Kagawa- you are faery royalty!!

When Ellie Faneuil first sees Michael Chase she feels an instantaneous connection. But she does not realize how much they have in common, including the ability fly and to see what others are thinking - not to mention a taste for blood. Reveling in their new powers and their growing feelings for each other, Ellie and Michael are determined to uncover what they are, and how they got this way ... together.
But the truth has repercussions neither could have imagined. Soon they find themselves center stage in an ancient conflict between fallen angels that threatens to destroy everything they love. And it is no longer clear whether Ellie and Michael will choose the same side.
In this electrifying novel Heather Terrell spins a gripping tale of soul-mates, supernatural powers and a truth that will change Ellie and Michael‘s world forever. "
*I am SOOO looking forward to the sequel of The Pace! The first one was awesome and I can't wait to see what happens next. I also LOVE the cover of Fallen Angel and I think it sounds like an incredible new angel series (I do love my angels!!). What are you waiting for?

Here is my teaser from Angel Starby Jennifer Murgia
~page 84: "I watched the clouds stretch across the fading light of the day like elegant fingers, curling and crushing the glow from existence. Above the trees the sky was already darkening, as though an ink spill was spreading across the heavens, darker than any night I had ever seen. I took one last look at the blackness that was quickly threading itself into a deep cloud, a blackness that was alive, hovering, waiting. I ran inside and slammed the door."
I have featured the upcoming release I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (aka James Frey) in one of my 'Waiting On Wednesday' posts. This is the first book in a planned six-book series titled The Lorien Legacies. I can't wait to read it when it hits shelves on August 3rd. If you didn't know already... there is a movie based on this book in production RIGHT NOW with DreamWorks! It features the super hottie from Beastly, Alex Pettyfer! The movie releases February 18, 2011. I just ran across the official book trailer from HarperTeen and some 'Behind The Scenes' footage from the movie that was shown at ComicCon! Enjoy!!!

I have been waiting FOREVER to read Shadow Hills by Anastasia Hopcus! This is her debut novel, and the first book in a new paranormal YA series. The wait was definitely worth it! This book ROCKED!!
Summary from Goodreads:

Since her sister’s mysterious death, Persephone “Phe” Archer has been plagued by a series of disturbing dreams. Determined to find out what happened to her sister, Phe enrolls at Devenish Prep in Shadow Hills, Massachusetts—the subject of her sister’s final diary entry.
After stepping on campus, Phe immediately realizes that there’s something different about this place—an unexplained epidemic that decimated the town in the 1700s, an ancient and creepy cemetery, and gorgeous boy Zach—and somehow she’s connected to it all.
But the more questions she asks and the deeper she digs, the more entangled Phe becomes in the haunting past of Shadow Hills. Finding what links her to this town…might cost her her life."
My Thoughts This was such a refreshing read! Anastasia Hopcus delivers an original paranormal storyline, with strong characters, and suspense at every turn! The mixture of science, biology, and supernatural elements added to the originality of this book and made it unlike any other book I've read. No detail was left unattended by Hopcus and the amount of research she must have done was evident. Hopcus introduced us to a wide array of interesting characters. While reading, I could picture all of them in my mind. The main character, Phe, was strong-willed and didn't take crap from anyone. She was on a mission for answers surrounding her sister's (Athena) death and her own disturbing dreams. She was relentless in this quest, which also became a journey of self-discovery for her. She learns that the secrets held by the locals of Shadow Hills are more closely tied to her than she could have imagined. I have to say that there were points in the book that I wanted to take Phe and yell at her "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING'!!!! Some of the decisions she made were just so completely reckless and unsafe- but that is Phe! There was definitely no shortage of hotties in this book either! There was the mysterious, gorgeous, slightly dangerous love interest (Zach), there was the uber hot, yet super dangerous bad boy (Trent), and the cute and reliable best friend (Graham). Phe's connection with Zach was intense and electric (literally!) They had the odds stacked against them and multiple forces trying to tear them apart. Even through all of this, they could not stay away from each other. I really look forward to seeing the progression of their relationship in future installments of this series!
The pacing was perfect! There really was no dull moment in the book (or dull character) and I hated having to put it down (who needs dinner? right?!). I found the ending to be climatic and the unanswered questions that remain set the stage nicely for the next book. This is one of my favorite books of 2010 and I cannot wait to read the next one!!! Anastasia Hopcus is a wonderful new addition to the ya scene and she can count me in as one of her biggest fans!!!

I absolutely love Scott Westerfeld because his books are always so original and creative. You can always count on great action and adventure as well! (favorite Westerfeld book: Peeps)
Another favorite is Cassandra Clare. Her Mortal Instruments series is outstanding! I flew through all of them and now I am anxiously awaiting The Clockwork Angel which is the first book in her prequel series titled The Infernal Devices.
I also love all of Maggie Stiefvater's books. Shiver is one of my all-time favorite reads and I can't wait to crack open Linger! Lament and Ballad are also phenomenal! I love Maggie's writing style, character development, and creativity.

Summary from Goodreads:
"Sixteen-year-old Yara Silva has always known that ghosts walk alongside the living. Her grandma, like the other females in her family, is a Waker, someone who can see and communicate with ghosts. Yara grew up watching her grandmother taunted and scorned for this unusual ability and doesn't want that to be her future. She has been dreading the day when she too would see ghosts, and is relieved that the usually dominant Waker gene seems to have skipped her, letting her live a normal teenage life. However, all that changes for Yara on her first day at her elite boarding school when she discovers the gene was only lying dormant. She witnesses a dark mist attack Brent, a handsome fellow student, and rushes to his rescue. Her act of heroism draws the mist's attention, and the dark spirit begins stalking her. Yara finds herself entrenched in a sixty-year-old curse that haunts the school, threatening not only her life, but the lives of her closest friends as well. Yara soon realizes that the past she was trying to put behind her isn't going to go quietly."

Written by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Available NOW!! (released May 19, 2010)
Published by St. Martin's Griffin
Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter (adult) series is one of my all-time favorites and I have read every single one of them! Nick Gautier has been one of my favorite characters throughout the series and I have always wanted him to have his own book. You can imagine my excitement when I found out that he not only had his own book coming out, but his own ya series!! Woot! Woot!!
Summary from Goodreads:
"At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.
Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead.
But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu.
As if starting high school isn't hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?"
My Thoughts:
I knew I would love this book before I even cracked it open! I am a long-time reader and huge fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's adult Dark Hunter books. Nick Gautier is one of my favorite characters from that series and he is the central figure in Kenyon's new ya series titled the Chronicles of Nick. Infinity is the first book in the series and introduces the young adult readers to Nick at the age of 14. Those that have read the adult Dark Hunter books will see this book as a look into the past, back to the start of Nick's journey towards his destiny. For those new to the Dark Hunter world, this is an action-packed introduction featuring shapeshifters, Gods, demons, dark hunters, vampires, zombies and more!
This was a fantastic read for me, but I may be a little biased! I have been a fan of Nick's for a long time! I think that having prior knowledge of the characters and world that Sherrilyn Kenyon so masterfully created in the adult series, enabled me to see character and plot connections that may go unnoticed by someone who is new to this world. I can see where some characters and their connections to Nick were touched on, but not fully explained and some of the terms common to the world were not really well defined. I don't think new readers will really notice anything as lacking or missing, but some characters, such as Uncle Ambrose, and some relationships, like Nick and Archeron's, would have had more depth and foreshadowing if you had read the adult series first. That being said.... I am not implying that you must read the adult series to fully enjoy Infinity!!! On the contrary, the adult series is just that...ADULT! Although some of the characters are the same, the writing is very different. Sherrilyn Kenyon did a great job making Infinity age appropriate. The language, situations, and romantic references were all handled in a way that made it enjoyable and PG. I am so excited to see this exciting world made available to teen readers!
The pace of the book was great- no slow spots! There was exciting action on just about every page mixed with plenty of laugh out loud moments (usually courtesy of Bubba and Mark). There were also moments that made your heart ache for Nick. He is such a lovable character!! I enjoy and appreciate his sarcasm and admire his fierce loyalty to family and friends. I love that he is a street smart, tough as nails guy but so good hearted and vunerable underneath it all! The plot of the book was fun (brain eating zombies!) and should appeal to guys and girls alike! I would recommend this to fans of the ya supernatural genre and anyone who loves a good ole' good versus evil smackdown!! I really enjoyed reading it myself and can't wait for the next in the series! Nick's destiny is pretty incredible and should make for an incredible series! I doubt anyone will read this and not be TEAM NICK when they are done!!! Check out the trailer....
